In the year 1876 the 24th of July, presented himself before the Officer of the Civil Register of the municipality Nijmegen, province Gelderland, Willem Christiaan Pieter Jansz accountant age 27, resident of Nijmegen; who declared that on the 23rd of July, 1876, at 3:30 in the morning in Nijmegen has been born a child of the male gender from Willem Christiaan Pieter Jansz mentioned before, and Helena Berendina Brinkman, married couple and to which he has declared to give the name of Derk Anton Lourens.

The said declaration happens in the presence of Jasper de Kok accountant, resident of Nijmegen age 27 years and of Anton Meijer Varnisher, resident of Dordrecht age 43 years.
After reading aloud the current birth certificate to the declarant and the witnesses, they have signed with us.

OK! This makes 'Derk', Opas official first name. Possibly back then as was the case on Ellis Island, people spelled names phonetically as apposed to asking the person to spell their name... if they could.
