Cousin Mariette van der Veer, sent a couple of interesting links to a possible relative. Willem Jansz or Janszsoon. Janszsoon translated... apprently Johnson,
according to the dialogue in "The First Discovery of Australia", link below. I was also informed that it could mean son of Jansz. Who knows? Not I.
I sent these links to my friend Jan Terink, in Holland, who was instrumental in filling the gaps in my historical journey of the Jansz family.
He was unable to find any connection, BUT, he stated that that would not mean he is NOT our ancestor. So, with that said enjoy the information.
And a big thanks to Mariette.
Mariette resides in two locations, one of course is the Netherlands and the other Malawi, South Africa. You can find more about her side of the family in the link above in the navigation menu.
I'll keep digging, since it appears the dutch were first on many ocassions.
For instance: In 1609, Henry Hudson landed in North America on behalf of the Dutch East India Company and explored the region around the modern New York
metropolitan area. Looking for a Northwest Passage to Asia, on his ship Halve Maen ("Half Moon"), he sailed up the Hudson River, which was later named
after him, and thereby laid the foundation for Dutch colonization of the region.
